Kirk Gerald "Jerry" Malcolm, age 68, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born April 21, 1939, at Deadwood, SD to Kirk Weir and Pauline Alberta (Wiest) Malcolm. He grew up and attended high school in Newell, SD, where he participated in basketball, football, track, debate, plays and band. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy. Following his honorable discharge in 1963, he worked in the banking industry for several years; for the SD Military Academy at Ft. Meade for seven years, after which he was employed by the United States Postal Service until retirement in 2004.
In June of 1965, he married Sharon Wahlfeldt. To this union two children, Lyle and Lisa were born. In December of 1991 he married Eileen Bayless and they resided in Sturgis until the time of his death. Jerry loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He developed a love for horses from helping his father raise, train and race thoroughbred horses and loved to attend horse races. He enjoyed outdoor activities-camping, fishing, hunting, all sports and was an avid Broncos fan.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Malcolm, Sturgis, SD; brother and sister-in law, Jack (Jon) and Inez Malcolm, Cheney, WA, brother-in-law, Ira Bayless, Eagle Butte, SD, sister-in-law Janet (Guy) Simons, Piedmont, SD; one son, Lyle A. Malcolm (Tonia), Belle Fourche, SD; one daughter Lisa P. Tobin (Travis), Grand Junction, CO; one stepson, Audey Anderson, Sturgis, SD; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Kirk Robert, and Kyle Malcolm of Belle Fourche, SD; and Brooks and Layton Tobin, Grand Junction, CO; six step-grandchildren; Deanna Stoeser, Pierre, SD; Layne (Christopher) Roeder, Alexandria, MN; Kent Anderson, Ft. Pierre, SD; Erika Anderson, Ft. Collins, CO; Chance Anderson, Faith, SD; and Jessica Anderson, Conifer, CO. Preceding him in death were his parents Kirk W. and Pauline A. Malcolm; his mother-in-law Ingeborg "Inge" Bayless; two infant brothers; Craig and Bruce; one step-son; Melvin (JR) Anderson, and two-step grandchildren; AJ and Tyler Anderson.
Visitation will be 8 am to 9 pm on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Services will be 2 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, with Pastor Wayne Olson officiating. Internment will be at the National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
A memorial has been established. In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts to the memorial.
