Newcastle, WY. - L. A. Helms, 49 of Newcastle was tragically killed in an electrical fire at his residence on January 4, 2012. L.A. was born March 16th 1962 to Dean and Gwen Helms in Hot Springs SD. In June of the same year the family moved to Newcastle, where he made his home until the time of his death. L.A. grew up playing baseball, riding motorcycles, and enjoying life in general. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1980. L.A. spent most of his adult life working in the oil fields and with Lone Wolf Construction until he started his own water well drilling service several years ago. In 1983 he married Cathy Clingan from Upton and from that union they had 2 children, Micheal and Joseph. L.A. Loved anything to do with the outdoors, but hunting whitetails in the Black Hills was his one true passion. Anybody that knew L.A. knew that he always had a good story to tell over his escapades. Along with L.A., all of his stories will truly be missed. Survivors include his two sons, Michael (Bridget) Helms, Newcastle and Joseph Helms, Gillette; his father, Dean Helms, Newcastle; a special friend, Dorothy Thomson, Osage; a sister, Darby (Joe) Larralde, Newcastle; two nephews, J.W. Vickers, Torrington and Jesse Larralde, Chadron, NE and a niece, Jamie Vickers, Sturgis,SD.He was preceded in death by his mother Gwen Helms. He was preceded in death by his mother Gwen Helms. L.A. was preceded in death by his mother Gwen Helms . L.A. will be remembered for his willingness to work hard, his great stories, and his neverending sense of humor. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14th at the Country Church at Four Corners. Refreshments and reminiscing will follow the service at the VFW in Newcastle.
