Larry Franklin Busby, 59, of Whitewood, SD, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his home.
A visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Larry was born on July 9, 1952, to Earl and Cora Lee Busby, in Lucerne, Missouri. He was the "middle child" of seven. He attended school at Pekin, IL, and then was drafted into the Army where he spent 24 years, before he decided to retire. During this time he met his wife, and lifelong companion, Bernadette (Lesselyoung) Busby, at Fort Gordon, GA. They got married in February, 1978, and began their life as partners. They traveled to Heidelberg, W Germany, where their sweet son, Nick, was born. After three years abroad they returned stateside to Fort Dix, NJ, then on to Fort Wainwright, AK, and then back stateside to Fort Bragg, NC. In 2002, their family requested and received a transfer back to South Dakota, and made their home north of Whitewood.
Larry is survived by his wife, Bernadette, their son, Nick, his sisters and their families: Betty (Denny) Urish, and Carol (Bill) Tribble, and his brothers and their families: Scott (Robyn), Kevin (Connie) and Richard, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Cora Busby, and a sister, Bonnie.
A memorial has been established to the Fort Meade Hospice.
