Larry Gene Funell, 65, White Owl, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Denzel Nonhof and Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial follows at the White Owl Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Sturgis DAV.
Larry was born December 3, 1943 at Sturgis, SD, to Archie and Ella (Pence) Funell. He grew up in the country and graduated from Sturgis High School. He was drafted into the US Army and served his country with the Strategic Communication Command as a communications specialist with the Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam war. Upon his discharge he returned to South Dakota where he continued his lifelong career in farming and ranching.
Survivors include his mother Ella Funell, White Owl; one brother, Jerry Funell, White Owl; one sister Betty Funell, Sauk Rapids, MN; special friend, Tamala Lester and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
