Larry died on August 17, 2014 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital after fighting a fast fight with colon cancer.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.

Larry Frederic Hanson was born on August 11, 1947, to Fred and Joyce (Chafee) Hanson. He grew up on the original homestead of his grandparents north of Sturgis. Larry attended rural elementary school before going into Sturgis and graduating from Sturgis High School. He went on to obtain a business degree from Black Hills State University in Spearfish.

Larry worked at the Sturgis Police Department as Chief of Police, the Sundance Hospital as an administrator, the Gillette Hospital as assistant administrator and EMT, and at Job Services in Rapid City. He then obtained his real estate license and worked for Lewis and Kirkeby in Rapid City, Ferguson Realty in Sturgis, and finally as a broker/realtor for Hanson Realty and Auction Service. Feeling the "itch" one more time, he bought a semi and started hauling hay and cattle with his son Bret. That one truck led him to a lifetime of love for trucking with Larry Hanson trucking. Larry also tried his hand at racing cars with his brother Bruce.

Larry loved spending time at his grandkids' sporting events. When he wasn't in the truck he could be found at motocross races, soccer games, rodeos, wrestling tournaments, basketball games, and track meets. He also had a passion for going to auctions and collecting paintings and coins. Actually, he had a passion for collecting anything!

He is survived by his children, Bret Hanson, Brenda Cassen, and Fathom Jensen; his brother, Bruce Hanson, Riverton, WY; his sister, Pam Leeper, Sheridan, WY; nine grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederic Hanson and Joyce Miller; his brother, Freddy Lee Hanson; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
