January 29, 1956 – August 11, 2024
Larry Vincent Koneczny, born on January 29, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on August 11, 2024. A devoted Marine, Larry's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to service and his vibrant, larger-than-life personality. After his service in the Marine Corps, he spent much of his career as a truck driver, finding fulfillment in his work with Solid Construction.
For nearly two decades, Larry was a beloved presence at the Sturgis motorcycle rallies, where he worked security and spent the latter part of his rally career at the Iron horse Saloon. Known for his warm smile and welcoming demeanor, he embodied the spirit of the rally family and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Larry was passionate about fishing and motorcycles, and he was happiest when riding, reflecting his free-spirited nature. His heartwarming bear hugs and cheerful presence made him a joy to be around. Larry's humor, often playful and occasionally dark, was balanced by his ability to be serious and thoughtful when needed. His motto, "Service with a Smile," was a testament to his approach to life and his interactions with others.
Above all, Larry cherished his role as a father. His daughter, Harley N. Koneczny, was his world, and he had deep affection for his son, Jimmie C. Luna. His dog Demon was his life as well. He also embraced his role as a father figure to many adopted children who called him "Dad." Larry's boundless love and protective nature were evident to all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Elfriede H. Koneczny; his sister, Rosemary T. Steely; his brothers, Dennis and Wolfman; and many friends who became family and fellow servicemembers.
He is survived by his daughter, Harley N. Koneczny, and son-in-law, Ryan A. Geske; his son, Jimmie C. Luna; his nephew, Patrick Steely; his great-nephew, Broc Steely; and extended family, including Scott and Becky Christoffersen, as well as numerous self-adopted family members and military family.
Larry's legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
