Larry E. Nelson, 71, Sturgis, SD, died June 29, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, July 2, at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 2040 Vista Hills Place, Spearfish, followed by lunch at the church. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.

Larry Eugene Nelson was born April 3, 1944, in Hettinger, ND, to Marinus & Ida (Jernberg) Nelson. He was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Spearfish. He married Norma Blakeman on March 20, 1965, while in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the Army, Larry & Norma and their family resided in Sturgis until the present.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma; his children: Larry Lee (Kim) Nelson, James (Sara) Nelson, Tina (Clint) Brengle, Nicole (Kevin) Forrester, Michael (Shelli) Nelson, David Nelson, Leslee (Curt) Wood, Chanda (Preston) Findley, Laurie (Jamie) McVay, all of Sturgis, SD, Colleen (Mike) Grant of Henderson, CO, and Kristi (Mato) Standing High of Rapid City, SD; 34 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Diana Nelson Toft, Belvidere, IL, and a host of friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws James & Pearl Blakeman, two granddaughters, Ashley Nelson and Starr Standing High, and a brother-in-law, Bill Blakeman.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
