Larry L. Rafferty died February 13, 2014 in Wayne, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years 5 months. He was born September 13, 1936 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Owen and Mary (Frisz) Rafferty. He was raised and attended school in Lemmon. He later earned his Bachelors in Reno, Nevada. Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, proudly serving his country. On July 11, 1957, Larry married Karen Beyers. In 1971, Larry was stationed in Sturgis, South Dakota and served as Chief and Maintenance Officer. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard in 1986. Larry was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He also was a rock enthusiast and enjoyed finding, polishing and cutting rocks. Larry was a lifelong member of the VFW, American Legion and was honored by South Dakota for his military service. He was a 32 degree SCottish Rite Master Mason and Shriner. They made Wayne, Oklahoma their home after his retirement.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Mary Rafferty; son, Larry Rafferty; brother, Cliff Rafferty. Survivors include his wife, Karen of the home; son, Scott Rafferty; daughters, Jaqi Satterlee, Jill Harris, and Kari Phillips; siblings, Charles Rafferty, Jack Rafferty, Darlene Ridell, Arlett Schwitzer, Marlis Barth; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis. Inurnment with military honors follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
