Larry affectionately known by friends and family as "Grizz" Vern Heimbuck, 72, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, suddenly of a massive heart attack. Graveside services for Grizz will be held Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11 A.M. at the Black Hills National Cemetery, 20901 Pleasant Valley Drive, Sturgis, SD 57785.
Grizz was born May 9, 1953, in Deadwood to Wilmer Vern Heimbuch (records used the German spelling of his last name) and Barbara Lavaunne Kampa Heimbuck.
Grizz loved and spent most of his time in the outdoors on his much-loved motorcycles, fishing and gardening. Grizz was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He spent many years in various trucking jobs. Grizz will be remembered for his big heart and kind spirit.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the VA Black Hills Veterans Center for their exemplary and compassionate care they gave Grizz. He received visits from caring staff and a great deal of assistance in being able to stay in his home.
Grizz was preceded in death by his sister Carol Ryan and his parents Will and Barbara. He is survived by nephews: Chris Heimbuck, Mark Ryan and Loryn Ryan and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends and motorcycle "brothers".
