Obituary

Larry Wright passed on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 19th, 2025 with family and friends by his side.

On St. Patrick's Day 1936, Larry Wright was born to Carol and Leo Wright in Norfolk, Nebraska. In his early teen years, the family moved to Rapid City and he has resided there ever since. He graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to school at Vermillion and Brookings to secure a degree in pharmacy. He owned and operated Robbinsdale Drug for many years before turning his interest to real estate and property management. He loved the beauty and wildlife in the Black Hills and took many excursions to explore from his small remote cabin.

From the cabin porch he also loved to feed his myriads of friends; the birds, turkeys and the raccoons, making sure they were well fed through a cold winter. He enjoyed taking the grandchildren on all sorts of hikes and adventures in the hills, Badlands, and all outdoor experiences. He especially enjoyed taking long drives through Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park with family to track down and view the buffalo herds, deer, elk herds, bighorn sheep. coyotes, burros, and raptors, among various others along with the beauty of the surrounding hills and grassland prairie.

A diagnosis of dementia slowed him considerably and added kidney failure resulted in his passing on November 19th, 2025.

His parents and a sister, Mary Jean, preceded him in death as well as much loved sons, Mark Wright and Steve Steinley.

He is survived by his wife Lucy, celebrating 49 years of marriage; his brothers, Don (Loyce) Wright and Jerry (Carol) Wright; his sons, Preston Wright (Khalida; Boston, MA), Colin Wright (Mira; Brooklyn, NY), Mike Steinley (Liz; Westchester, PA), Jerry Steinley (Rapid City, SD). Also, his grandchildren, Katrina Steinley, Nick Steinley (Shannon; Philadelphia, PA), Chris Steinley (Caroline; Boston, MA), Alicia Steinley, Hannah Partridge (Josh; Rapid City, SD), Alex Steinley, Noah Wright, and Artemis Wright, and great granddaughter, Florence Partridge.

As Larry wished, there will be no public service. The family will gather at a later date in the summer for a celebration of his life. Special thanks to Hospice House for the wonderful care.
