On April 8 ^th , 2023, Laurie Hurd, of Black Hawk, SD, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 61.

Laurie, born in Lemmon, SD on August 16 ^th , 1961, endured two long, difficult bouts with Leukemia which she overcame with great courage and strength. Her treatments included 8 months of inpatient treatment at the Mayo clinic in which her mother, Darlene Weber, was by her side the entire time, and her loving brother, Greg Svihovec, so generously agreed to donate his bone marrow to her treatment. With the support of her family and her unbreakable spirit, Laurie was able to enjoy life for a miraculous 14 years after these ordeals. These were years that saw her see the birth of her Grandchild, and best buddy, Caden Hurd, along with cherished times spent with friends, family, her Husband, Duke Hurd, and their loving pets. Despite the great distance between them Laurie always maintained a close bond with her father, Jim Curtis, and was the best of friends with her mother, Darlene.

Laurie was a lover of life, and a lover of all things living. Laurie adored animals of all kinds from the birds and squirrels in her backyard, to the horses she cared for and visited to her numerous pets over the years. Laurie was always in pure joy in the presence of any of her beloved animals. Laurie loved laughter and could commonly be found in a theatre watching a children's movie next to her grandson laughing more loudly than all the other children around her.  Her laughter and kindness were infectious to everyone around her, and she will be missed greatly by all those that she touched with her kind heart.

Laurie is survived by her mother, Darlene Weber; father, Jim Curtis; husband, Jeff Hurd; son, Brett (Amy) Hurd; and grandson, Caden Hurd. Laurie was preceded in death by her brother, Greg Svihovec; and stepfather, Mark Weber.

Services will be held at a later date.
