Lavina was born in Sterling, CO, on April 10, 1921, to John and Matilda (Leinweber) Stark. She lived on a farm near Belle Fourche until her parents took her and her two sisters, Helen and Esther, and moved to Vale where she attended school. After her school years, Lavina helped her parents with farm work by operating farm equipment and working in the sugar beet fields along with her sister, Helen.
She was married to Fred Miller, Jr. and to this union, four children were born: Tommy, Roy, Dawn "Rexine", and Carmen. After moving to Sturgis, Lavina was married to Carl Aga until his passing. Lavina, also known by her friends and family as "Hon", was employed by the Deadwood Hospital as a supervisor in the dietary department. She was an excellent cook and baker, and her German hotcakes were especially delicious.
