Lungren
February 17, 1944 – September 7, 2019
Larry was born February 17, 1944, near Newell, SD, to Victor and Mildred (Timm) Lungren. Larry lived on a farm west of Vale, SD, until they moved to Deadwood, SD, in 1951. He graduated from Deadwood High School, entering the service immediately thereafter. He served as a Navy Corpsman with the United States Marine Corps from March 1, 1961, until February 3, 1965. He was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Kaneohe, Hawaii. After his discharge, he was employed with the U.S. Forest Service until moving to Sioux Falls. There he met his wife, Bernie, and was married in 1969. Larry and Bernie have been blessed with one daughter, Kristen Kelly, and grandson, Kyle Jordan.
After a short time living in Brandon, Larry and Bernie returned to live in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He was employed in the truck and auto sales industry within the tri-county area. Larry had great regard for his customers and had many a return customer because of his outstanding customer service. Larry retired in 2006.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting with his father, brother, brother-in-law, and nephews. In his later life, he spent time with his brother, Tom, long range target shooting.
Lawrence "Larry" Gayle Lungren, 75, of Spearfish, died Saturday, September 7, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his wife, daughter, and family.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 50 years, Bernie; daughter, Kristen, of Spearfish, SD; grandson, Kyle (Karlee), of Billings, MT; sister, Vikki of Spearfish, SD; brother, Tom of Belle Fourche, SD; sister-in-law, Joyce of Wilmot, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Victor and Mildred; sister, Pam Calvert; and brothers-in-law, Con Comer and Fred Sorenson.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Committal services, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Spearfish Memorial Veteran's Monument and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
