Lembi Sisilia (Sampila) Turpen, 93, Sturgis, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Committal services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Hope Cemetery near Newell with Rev. Harlan Robbins officiating.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Lembi was born February 21, 1915 at Terraville, SD, to John and Anna (Nikkila) Sampila. The family moved to Snoma in 1915 and Lembi attended school there.
In 1921 the Sampilas moved to Newell.
Lembi married Arthur Freitag in 1938 and later married Louie Turpen in 1946.
Lembi and Louie lived in Box Elder and Nisland as well as Wyoming where Louie worked in the construction field.
In later years, Lembi lived in Belle Fourche, Sturgis and the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center since 1990.
Survivors include her nephews and their families; William (Scarlett) Glover, Olympia, WA, Ronald (Diana) Glover, Rapid City, Danny Sampila, Chicago, IL; nieces and their families; Jeanette Niemiec, Christy Sampila, both of Chicago, also the families of deceased nephews, Kenneth Berg, Oregon, and Kenneth Kumpula, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Sampila, Jr., sisters; Elma Glover, Vienna Berg and Edna Kumpula and two nephews.
