Lenora "Nonie" K. (Goff) Rhoden, 71, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Father Vern Rathke and Father John Wedgwood officiating. Visitation will be Monday, April 27, 2009 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery following the funeral service.
Nonie was born in Wood, South Dakota on June 28, 1937, to James "Jim" and Evelyn (McKee) Goff. Nonie spent her childhood in Wood, Kyle and Blackpipe where she first started school. Before her third year of school the family moved to White River where she remained thru her junior year of high school. Then her family moved to Garden Grove, California, where she graduated from high school. She remained in California for 3 years where she worked in a bank as a bookkeeper until she returned to Winner to work in the bank there.
She moved to Sturgis, SD and attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish with her brother and sister. At this time she met and married the love of her life, Duayne on May 31, 1964, in Sturgis and started their family to which two children were born, Lisa and David. During this time she taught school in Piedmont and a rural school east of Sturgis for four years.
Nonie was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Churach and was involved in volunteer work at the Sr. Center Thrift Store. Her Wednesday lunches with Janice and Marcella were always a big part of her week. Nonie enjoyed many things including sewing, doing crafts, canning, crocheting and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was anticipating the arrival of her great-grandchild.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter Lisa (Bob) Boyer and her son David (Roxana) Rhoden, and grandchildren Darian, Skye and Katlynn of Sturgis; a sister Joyce (Guy) Bailey, Port Huron, Michigan; a brother James Wayne Goff and special friend Janelle Youel, Gordon, NE; nephews Ben and Bruce Bailey, niece Staci (Mike) Bayliss, Aunts Jean McKee and Emma McKee, step children Bob (Cyndi) Baker and Amy (Jim) Waddell and numerous cousins.
Nonie was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Duayne F. Rhoden and her parents Jim and Evelyn Goff.
A memorial has been established.
