Leslie Darrow Remington, 76, Sturgis, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Sturgis, with Pastor Keith Nelson officiating. Burial with military honors followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Leslie was born June 16, 1930 in Sturgis, to Harold and Aileen (Chafee) Remington. He grew up, and attended school in Sturgis and graduated in 1951. He joined the Navy and served in Korea.
Following his discharge, he returned to Sturgis and married Shirley Blake on June 7, 1952 at Ft. Meade.
Leslie worked at Ft. Meade, first as a mail carrier and later in janitorial services. He also worked at Regan's service station in Sturgis.
Leslie owned and operated gravel trucks from 1961 until 1966 when he sold them and started working at the Dixon Sawmill. He stayed at the sawmill until 1979 when he and his family started the Day's End Campground in Sturgis.
He was active in the local Sturgis C.B. Radio club. He also enjoyed fishing and his tractors.
Survivors include his wife, five sons,two sisters,16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and three grandchildren.
