Obituary

Leslie Mae Stephens was born April 11, 1958, in Rapid City, SD, to Joseph and Willa Mae Herrera. She lived in CA in her youth before moving with her family to Rapid City, SD. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1976. She married Michael Franklin Stephens, and they moved to Kansas City, MO. To this union was born their son, Paul Michael Stephens. They divorced in 1981, and she returned to Rapid City with her son. In 1993 she had her own house built and they moved to Black Hawk, SD, where she currently resided.

Leslie worked for Landstrom’s and Coleman Black Hills Gold companies as a jewelry tacker. In her last years of work, she worked for AMS and SD Mines as a facilities supervisor. She took extreme pride in her cleaning.

In her retirement, she enjoyed watching her grandkids, Mikaela and Mathew.

She will be remembered as a Kansas City Chiefs fan, celebrating the wins and losses with her son and grandson. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR with them. Attending a NASCAR race in Kansas City and visiting Arrowhead Stadium in 2020 were highlights.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Paul & Moneik Stephens and their kids, Mikaela and Mathew, her brothers Darin (Pam) Herrera and William Herrera, sisters Debbie (Floyd) Myers, Selina Herrera, and Karen (Stu) Sinclair, Uncle Bill Herrera, Uncle Art (Shirley) Herrera, Aunt Carmen Martinez, and a special Aunt Lillian Lehman.

Passing before her were her parents, Willa Mae Herrera and Joseph & Dorothy Herrera, Brother Dick Schmidt, Uncles Merle, Ben, & Lee Herrera & Biff Jones, & Aunts Esther Triplett, Rory Landers, & Kris Jones.
