Lila M. Burrington Feist, 90, of Rapid City, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Belle Fourche Health Care.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Lila Marie Anders was born June 5, 1924, in Ellendale, ND, to Roy and Lillian (Babcock) Anders. She grew up and was educated in Deadwood. After high school, Lila worked for some years at Thorpe Jewelry in Deadwood. On January 18, 1948, Lila married Hugh Burrington and to this union, two children were born, Rick and Kevin. Lila enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker. After her boys were older, Lila went back to school, graduating from Black Hills State, receiving her Bachelor's in education. She taught elementary school in Deadwood before going back and getting her master's at BHSU. She then taught high school in Deadwood and Lead. Lila again continued on in her education, receiving her Doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Colorado in Greeley. She went on to teach at Black Hills State and at National College in Rapid City.
Lila married John McColley on December 27, 1988. The couple only had a few years together before John's death in May of 1992. Lila married Tony Feist in September of 1997 in Deadwood, making their home in Rapid City. She and Tony enjoyed traveling and RV'ing. Lila enjoyed collecting bird and bell figurines and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She will be deeply missed by her sons, Rick (Sarah) Burrington of Sturgis and Kevin (Debbie) Burrington of Manhattan, MT; a sister, Barbara Baier and her daughter, Sherry Ragatz, both of Rapid City; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and her life-long and very beloved friend, Yvonne Weyrich.
Lila was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh Burrington in 1985, John McColley in 1992 and Tony Feist in 2014; and siblings, Don and Ed Anders.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
