Obituary

Lila Mae Leger, 82, was born August 14, 1933, in Madison, SD. Lila was born 10 minutes after her twin sister, Lois, on the family farm in Madison. She grew up helping her parents and 6 siblings. She had a great passion for horses.

She met Henry "Tub" Rath and married on August 19, 1950. Together, they had their son, Bruce, one year later on August 19, 1951. She worked variety of jobs and attended Mitchell Vo-Tech.

In 1979, she married William (Bill) Leger. They made their home in Rozet, WY, and then to the Black Hills of South Dakota. She worked for St. Martin's and local hotels cleaning rooms, traveling the country, and enjoyed socializing with friends and family.

After Bill's death, she enjoyed the companionship of Donald Wittinger. She and Don enjoyed time at home, but also took on adventures of navigating the country, until Don's passing in 2012.

In the last few years, Lila has met wonderful friends at Holiday Hills Retirement facility, and truly appreciated all the staff that assisted her. Lila lived a simple lifestyle and always said, "I'm a farm girl." She had a delightful sense of humor, quite witty, a beautiful smile, and was a follower of her Lord Jesus Christ. Lila was incredibly grateful for her relationship with her son, Bruce, and twin sister, Lois. Over the many years, several memories were created and shared and engrained in one another's hearts.

Lila passed away March 11, 2016, at the Hospice House, Rapid City, SD.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Rath (Lori Kier); grandchildren, Travis Rath and Jessica (Tyler) Rachetto; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Rath, Wyatt Rath, and Keegan Rachetto; her twin sister, Lois D. (Edward) Nelson; stepchildren, Tony, Gary, Karen, and Marie; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Christensen; a sister, Frances Hagen; brothers, Merle, Marvin, Clarence, and Elwin Christensen; husbands, Henry "Tub" Rath and William "Bill" Leger; and special friend, Donald Wittinger.
