Funeral services for Lillian Powers 89, of Sturgis (formerly of Kimball SD) will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in the Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Visitation will resume Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 noon fellowship, and Rosary at 1:00 p.m. prior to service.

Lillian Josephine Powers was peacefully called to the Lord on Monday November 24, 2014, at her residence at Aspen Grove Assisted Care Center in Sturgis, SD. Lillian was born November 5, 1925, in Kimball to Arthur and Cecilia Miller. She attended school in Kimball. She was working as a nanny/housekeeper to Harold and Ilene Lantz when she met her husband, Lenard Powers, at a barn dance in 1943. On April 18, 1944, Lenard and Lillian wed at St. Margaret's Church in Kimball. They chose a life in agriculture and farming in Cleveland Township near Lenard's family.

They were blessed with one daughter, Doris in 1960. In 1979, Doris married David Pazour with whom they formed a partnership with their farming operation. To this union, 3 grandsons were born: Keith David Pazour, Scott Leo Pazour, and Daniel James Pazour. In 1992, the partnership ceased due to Lenard and Lillian's desire to retire. Doris married Denny Lauing in July of 1997. Lenard passed away suddenly on August 15, 1997 after 53 years of marriage. Lillian remained on the farm until June of 2013 when her health began to fail. She relocated to Sturgis where her daughter and husband lived and has resided at Aspen Grove Assisted Care Center until her passing on November 24, 2014.

Her faith and her family were very important to her. She received much joy from her 8 great-grandchildren. Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter, Doris Powers Lauing, and son-in-law, Denny Lauing, of Sturgis; her grandchildren, Keith Pazour and wife, Erin, and great-granddaughters, Trinity and Gracie of Pierre, Scott Pazour and wife, Sarah, great-granddaughter, Clara, and great-grandson, Kaden, of Kimball, Daniel Pazour and wife, Tessa, and great-grandsons, Tyrell and Tripp, granddaughter, Kaylie Sterud and husband, Aaron, of Rapid City, and Shean Lauing and wife, Kimberly, and great-grandsons, Wyatt and Colter of Colman; a brother, Robert Miller; sister-in-laws, Bernice Altman and husband, Gene Altman, and Mariann Powers all of Kimball; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard in 1997; her father, Arthur Miller; her mother, Cecilia (Schmitt) Miller; ten siblings, Gertrude, George, Lena, Paul, Lucille, Raymond, Leo, William, Mary, and Arthur Jr. and their spouses; father-in-law, David Powers and wife, Mary Powers; brother-in-laws, John, Martin, William, and their spouses; brother-in-law, Donald; sister-in-laws, Darlene and husband, and Gertrude.
