Linda Marie Hoyt Louks
Linda was born, October 9, 1947, to Thomas Hoyt and Arlene Webb in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended schools there and graduated from Weaver High School. Linda worked as a switch board operator after graduating. She came to South Dakota with her parents and attended Black Hills State for a semester. She made several trips back to Connecticut, but met Tony in Sturgis in 1976 and they were married in 1977. After their move to Englewood, Colorado, she and Tony returned to Sturgis to take care of her father.
Linda had a great sense of humor. She loved reading and her home was filled with books of all kinds. She studied the Bible and had a wealth of knowledge. She was a member of the Sturgis Church of Christ for many years and also served as a secretary to Terry Brough, former preacher for the church. Linda had a soft spot for the children and would often share treats and other gifts with them.
Linda passed away, July 4, 2019, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Gale Carl "Tony" Louks
Tony was born, January 28, 1943, to Lawrence Louks and Frances Crawford in Owatonna, Minnesota. He attended school in Park Rapids, and in 1960 joined the US Army and was sent to Germany as a radio operator in a tank corps for 3 years. He then re-enlisted as a radio operator for the Special Forces Ops during the Vietnam conflict. After his honorable discharge in 1964 he began his career in construction. After an injury to his hand he moved to Sturgis in 1976 where he met Linda Hoyt. They were married on April 15, 1977 in Denver, Colorado. In 1978 they moved to Englewood where Tony did various jobs.
Tony had a real love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sightseeing around the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park, and the Bighorn Mountains. In his free time, Tony liked to do woodworking and refinishing old wood products. Tony passed away November 13, 2007, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Fort Meade.
Graveside memorial services will be held for them, 9:00 am, Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
