Linda Kay Norby, 67, Spearfish, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank, Mont.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 26, 2007, with the Rev. Brent Parker and the Rev. Tani Parker officiating at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery.
Linda was born May 14, 1939, at Murdo, S.D., to Charles and Charlotte "Marie" (Church) Davenport. She grew up in Draper, S.D., where her parents owned and operated a restaurant. She moved to Florida and lived with her mother and stepfather, Marie and Skid. In 1957, Linda moved to Pierre, and that's where her daughter, Lynn, was born. She married Dan Flynn and the couple moved to Wagner, S.D., and her second daughter, Rene, was born. They moved back to Pierre where Dan worked on the Oahe Dam. In 1986, Linda moved to Spearfish and has lived there since.
The past 20 years, Linda was a daycare provider to many, many young children. She was fondly known to everyone as "Grandma Linda."
Linda enjoyed quilt making, seeing that every family member had a hand-made quilt. She also enjoyed baking and making candy, especially around the holidays. Linda's family describes her as, "Christmas, music, color, and happiness all rolled into one wonderful person."
Linda was a selfless, giving person that always put the needs of others before her own. She was a positive influence on the lives of many young children, teaching them important life values and skills.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynneva (Dan) Fredregill, Cut Bank, Mont., and Rene (Bernie) Bergeson, Pierre; two sisters, Evelyn "Tootie" (Orlo) Schervem, Presho and Mona Sharp, Pierre; nine grandchildren, Brandon Herrmann, Sioux Falls, Luke Westerman, Box Elder, LaShana Westerman, Cut Bank, Mont., Bradley Herrmann, Pierre, Rene' Fredregill, Des Moines, Iowa, Rebecca Fredregill, Sturgis and Jun Saito, Rei Saito, and Daniel "Tony" Fredregill, all of Cut Bank, Mont.; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Addis, Cut Bank, Mont., and Michael Hohl Jr. and Matthew Hohl, both of Des Moines, Iowa; three nieces, Tani, Teri, and Lana; and five nephews, Brett, Scott, Guy, Gus, and Joe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Launda Westerman, great-grandson, Matthew Addis, and ex-husband and friend, Dan Flynn.
