Lois A. Cowen, 88, of Pierre, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Avera Maryhouse Nursing Home in Pierre.

A memorial service will be held at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD on Friday, October 5, 2018, at 10:00 Am (MT).  Inurnment will follow at 11:30 am (MT) at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Lois was born July 8, 1930 to Frank and Elnora Delvaux.  As a young girl she lived with her family on a farm south of Vayland, SD.

Lois married John J. Palmer in July 1947.  To this union four children were born, Linda, John Alan, Jackie, and Greg.  As a young family they moved to Pierre in 1955.  Lois held various jobs throughout her years in Pierre, including Woolworths, the U.S. Corps of Engineers, and the State of South Dakota.

Lois later married Harry Cowen in September 1971.  They lived in Pierre for several years, during which Lois worked for the SD Division of Insurance and together they ran "Dirty Harry's Antiques".  They also refurbished several houses in Pierre. (They were "House Flippers" before it was cool). Later they relocated to Spearfish and Rapid City, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; and her brother, Donald.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Linda (James) Brooks, Sioux Falls, SD; son,  John Alan (Karen) Palmer, Pierre, SD;  daughter, Jackie (Ron) Vail, Gilbert, AZ; son, Greg (Denise) Palmer, Rapid City, SD, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
