Louie D. Simons was born September 30, 1927, to Jimmy and Ethel "Honey" (Horton) Simons at White Owl, SD, and was the first of six children.
He was a veteran and served in the United States Coast Guard, Merchant Marines in 1945. After his service, he worked in construction most of his life.

He married Phyllis B. Werckman on May 16, 1947, in Pierre, SD, and raised five children: Johnny, Carol, Mark, Shane, and James.

Louie enjoyed fishing, grandchildren, and gathering with family and friends and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rapid City.

Louie, 85, died September 26, 2012, at the Fort Meade V.A. Hospital.

He is survived by his children, Johnny Simons of Las Vegas, NV, Carol (Jim) Higgins of Spokane, WA, Mark Simons of Phoenix, AZ, Shane (Vicki) Simons of Rio Linda, CA, and James (Annette) Simons of Las Vegas, NV; his three sisters, Lucille "Nunny" Tysdal of Gothenburg, NE, Bonnie (Jerry) Hunt of Custer, SD, and Vonda "Ting" (Volmer) Jensen of Sturgis, SD; twelve grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Louie was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents, Jimmy and Honey Simons; brothers, Galen and John "L"; and brothers-in-law, Clinton
Tysdal and Bobby Werckman.

A memorial has been established to the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital.
