Lucille Emily Maus, 96, Sturgis, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hermosa with Pastor Becky Piper officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Hermosa.
Memorials have been established to the Grace Lutheran Church Women and Our Saviors Lutheran Church Women.
Lucille was born October 30, 1913 in Three Lakes, Washington to Carl W. and Rose (Brickheimer) Lidman. Moving to Hermosa at an early age she attended school at Hermosa. She and her sister Josephine attended and graduated from Lead High School.
Upon her return to Hermosa she met Robert Gustav "Gus" Maus. They were married in Lead, SD on October 6, 1941. After Gus worked for Homestake Mine for a couple of years, they returned to Hermosa. They worked for ranchers and soon leased a farm in that area. Getting their own farm, Lucille worked side by side with Gus milking cows, running range cows and raising mink. Gus built their retirement home on a small acreage near Hermosa. She remained there until her move to a town house in Sturgis at the age of 81. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran in Hermosa and was active at Grace Lutheran in Sturgis. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking and baking and entertaining family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Carlene Rosencranz, Spearfish, Irene (Louis) Lane, Springbrook, WI; three sisters, Clarie Meyer, Allen, TX; Helen Rosencranz, Hammond, MT; Lenore Starling, Pueblo West, CO; an aunt, Lucille Morrison, Kentwood, MI; also three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; and one cousin Donnie Brickheimer, Hermosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Raymond and Carl and one sister, Josephine.
