"Arlene" Strohschein
September 1, 1931 – October 17, 2015
Lydia Deloris "Arlene" Strohschein was born September 1, 1931, at Timber Lake, SD, to Leopold and Deloris (Ferdig) Mettler. She moved to Sturgis at an early age where she attended school. After completing her education, she married Arnold Strohschein at Miles City, MT, on November 27, 1951.
The couple ranched near Alzada and Capital, MT, before moving to a ranch near Mud Butte, SD. They ranched most of their lives until health forced them into retirement in the late 1980's. They retired to Sturgis where Arlene kept busy with sewing, knitting and crocheting.
She was active in the South Dakota Wool Growers Auxiliary. She also worked for the Sturgis school system in the cafeteria.
Arlene, 84, Sturgis, died Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Survivors include her sons, Monty (Deb) Strohschein, Rozet, WY, and Micky (Anita) Strohschein and Mike and (Deb) Strohschein, all of Wright,
WY; daughter, Marla (J.R.) Lanphear, Mississippi; son-in-law, Jay Yoshida, Newell; sisters, Bernice (Spud) Lemmel, Mud Butte, and Mary Hanzlik Murray, Sturgis; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Lewis.
A memorial has been established to Foothills Assisted Living.
