Obituary

Lyle Joseph Bohm was born October 1, 1935, at Presho, SD, to Joseph and Olga (Hilmoe) Bohm.

Lyle married Edith Culver on December 28, 1959, and they left for Arizona where Lyle was stationed in the U.S. Army. After Lyle's honorable discharge, they returned to Presho. They lived in the Black Hills until moving to Palestine, TX, in 2000. When Edith died February 20, 2004 in Tyler, TX, Lyle moved back to Spearfish, SD, in 2005.

Lyle worked for Beckwith Shoe Repair, Brown Oil Company, South Dakota State Highway Department, UI Sugar Company in Belle Fourche, Custer State Park, Bear Butte Shop in 1964, until he took over the volunteer store on October 1, 1965, then went to work for the VA Hospital until he retired on September 3, 1994. He enjoyed working with his brother at several of these jobs. He often joked about being a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Lyle enjoyed woodworking, leather working, and jewelry making. He had enough German stubbornness in him to keep him working at any project or problem to be able to solve it and make it work for him. Certain family members and friends were able to follow in this trait. He loved to be able to pass any and all knowledge and skill to all he could. He also enjoyed telling "war stories" to his great-grandson, Lars, and to anyone else who would listen.

One of his favorite things to do was to go for drives. When we were little, we would often "go get lost" in the Black Hills. His youngest daughter still loves to carry on this tradition. We've heard him say so many times that he was so glad on the days Mom felt well enough during her cancer treatments they could just take off and go for a drive anywhere and or nowhere in particular.
