Lyle Bowman, 72, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born November 1, 1946 in Sturgis, SD to August and Alice Elizabeth (Fenner) Bowman. Lyle grew up in the Elm Springs area and graduated from Sturgis High School.
Lyle married Donna Huck on February 20, 1971 in Sturgis. Lyle was a hard worker, in the early years he worked for Homestake in Deadwood. He then helped Donna operate the Boulder Canyon Restaurant until 1998. They then moved to Gillette where Lyle worked construction for a few years before going to Sundance to drive truck. In 2010 he semi-retired and started working part-time, which gave him the time to do the things he enjoyed the most.
He loved life with his family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and shooting guns with the grandsons and his boys. Lyle especially liked gatherings that would bring both sides of the family together. A few of his favorite times were going to auctions with his brother-in-law, Dave Stofferahn or playing cards with Dave and his wife, Cindy (aka Snot Snot). Going to Deadwood with Pauline and Leon Zentner, camping with Rose and Ken Whetstone, or when his sister-in-law, Carolyn Hefner would come down with her dog, Binky. Good times were always had and many fond memories were made.
The real apple of Lyle's eye were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether he was picking on them or playing with them, they all held a very special place in his heart. His orneriness will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Lyle leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Donna; sons, Bryan (Kristie), and BJ (Erin); daughter, Brenda (Brad); brothers, Jim (Regina), and Marvin (Carol); sister, Mary (Bill); thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Richard; and grandsons, DJ and Austin.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 am, Thursday, February 28, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Burial will take place in Elm Springs at a later date.
