Lyle was born Nov. 9, 1928, at Rapid City, to Leslie and Anna (Gates) Sigman.

He grew up in Bear Butte Valley and attended rural Meade County Schools. He ranched and farmed in Bear Butte Valley for the past 57 years.

Lyle married Shirley Sowers at Denver, Colo., on Aug. 23, 1949.

Lyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling. Most importantly, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their activities and working side by side with his sons and grandsons.

Lyle was a member of Farm Bureau, Farmers Union and the First Presbyterian Church.

Lyle W. Sigman, 78, Vale, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Friday, March 30, 2007.

Survivors include his wife; two sons; one son-in-law; two brothers and their wives; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded on death by his daughter, Joan Barry; his parents, Leslie and Anna Sigman; and one sister, Marg Hamling.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 2, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, with the Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial was at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis and the American Cancer Society.
