Lyndon was born to Ruth (Berges) and Larry Smith in Mason City, Iowa, on February 19, 1959. He was the oldest of three children. He grew up around Clear Lake, Iowa. Lyndon attended school in Iowa and Nevada.
Lyndon spent some years traveling around the country. Telling stories of jobs, he held in different states, like Iowa, South Dakota, California, and Nevada. He loved to tell us of all the water towers he painted in different cities and what it was like to be hanging out there painting in the breeze. He also was a tree trimmer and all-around handyman. Jack of all trades. He was also the Chicago Bears biggest fan.
Lyndon had some very close friends through many ups and downs in life. You meant so much to him; Rick & Jane, Mike, Skip & Doris, Buzz & Yolanda. You gave him many cherished memories. Thanks to all of Rose's family for accepting him into the family.
Lyndon and Rose met around 1987, and have been together for 33 years. Together they would party, play guitars, and sing. They saw each other through good times and bad times. When their health began to decline, they helped each other. They also took in many people and tried to help them in times of need. Together they managed a small apartment complex. They always helped their neighbors.
Lyndon's prize possession, other than his Rose, was his Martin guitar. Lyndon babied that guitar and played it daily. He looked forward to getting his Acoustic Guitar magazine. He saved every issue.
Another passion of Lyndon's was fishing. He told stories of fishing in Iowa with Grandpa Ervey and his special little fishing buddy, Reagan. Lyndon Baird Smith, 60, of Rapid City, caught his last Rainbow Trout about 16" at Deerfield Lake on January 11, 2020. He was so excited and happy. He said "This made my year!" A short while later Lyndon passed away at Deerfield Lake doing what he loved. Fishing!
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose LaRose; her children, Carol (Warren) Schuetzle, Cheryl (Rick) Maher, and Rose (Mitch) Frieling; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Robin (Brian) and daughter, Morgan Holmlund; brother, Kurt Smith; and uncle, Fred Freeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Larry) Smith; grandparents, Ervy (Nellie Mae) Smith; aunt, Carolyn Freeman; and nephew, Andrew Holmlund.
Prayer service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the Mother Butler Hall from 1-4 p.m.
A very heartfelt thank you to Robin, Kurt, and Uncle Fred, St. Isaac Joques Church family and friends, his medical doctors and nurses. Lyndon spoke fondly of everyone who entered his life.
