Lynn Gilbert Merchen, age 85, of Newcastle, Wyoming passed away July 11, 2026 at Fort Meade VA Hospital. He was born February 10, 1941, at home in Long Valley, South Dakota, to James and Margret (Gibson) Merchen.
Lynn joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and then married Sharron Parker in 1964. To this union two children were born; Edward on December 9, 1966 and Diana on December 13, 1967. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1965, Lynn and Sharron moved to Lead, SD where Lynn started his 29 year career at Homestake Gold Mine. Lynn and Sharron divorced in April of 1976. Lynn married Audrey Miller on October 2, 1976. He accepted Audrey’s two children Troy and Stacey as his own. Justin joined the family on September 7, 1977.
Lynn enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. His passion was going to stock car races. But he also he enjoyed looking at new cars, going to the stock show, and going to coffee with family and friends at local cafes.
Lynn is survived by his spouse of 49 years, Audrey; children, Edward (Sherri) of Newcastle, WY, Diana Lipford of Sturgis, SD, Troy (Heather) of Newcastle, WY, Stacey (Steve) of Newcastle, WY, and Justin (Misty) of Russelville, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel on July 16, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Services will be held at 12:00 PM and burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
