Obituary

Mabel June Hodgman, 91, Box Elder, died September 24, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial follows at the Timber Lake Cemetery near Timber Lake, SD.

Mabel was born June 7, 1917 at White Owl, SD, to Grant and Lydia (Weyer) Simons. She grew up on the family farm near White Owl. After completing her education she met Harry Hodgman. The couple were married at Sturgis on February 4, 1939.

In 1941 they moved to Oelrichs where Harry was employed as a teacher. They moved to Timber Lake in 1942 Mabel worked in the Timber Lake School as an assistant cook for many years. She also worked as a waitress in caf?s and was a clerk in a variety store.

Mabel enjoyed crafts, embroidery and sewing. She was a great cook.

In recent years Mabel moved to Box Elder to be closer to family.

Survivors include her son Allen Hodgman, Union Center; one daughter, Harriet (Jim) Silbernagel, Box Elder, SD; one brother Chick (Darlene) Simons, White Owl; two sisters, Helen Howie, Scottsbluff, NE, Jean (Cal) Ochszner, Potlatch, ID; five grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Terry, one brother and three sisters.
