Obituary

Mabel F. Trohkimoinen, 96, Spearfish and formerly of Vale, died at her son Bob's home on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the Nisland Independent Community Church in Nisland. Burial will follow at the Vale Cemetery.

Mabel was born December 16, 1918, at Deadwood, SD, to Wesley and Henrietta (Rysdam) Williamson. Mabel attended the Empire School through the eighth grade and two years at Vale High School.

She moved to Iowa in 1936 to work at a post office. She returned to Vale in 1940 where she married George A. Trohkimoinen at Sturgis on November 9, 1940.

The couple farmed and raised their children near Vale. Mabel worked in food service at Fort Meade from 1974 until 1984. The couple moved to Spearfish in 1991. They were married for fifty years prior to George's death in 1991. Mabel moved back to Vale in 1993 where she lived until returning to Spearfish in 2000.

She was a charter member of the Alladin Club. Mabel was a former parishioner of the Empire Friends Church near Vale, until it closed. She was also active in the Nisland Community.

Survivors include her son, Bob (Sheryl) Trohkimoinen; daughters, Carol Palmer and LaDona Wheatley; grandchildren, Ann, Jill, Toby, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Ezri, Alec, Wyatt, and Tel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and eleven siblings.

A memorial has been established to the Vale Cemetery.
