Mamie was born January 29, 1930, the 9th child of Albert and Elizabeth Schuelke, at Mud Butte, SD. The Schuelke family was a lively and busy family. With 6 brothers, Bob, Everett, Darrell, Harold, Dean, and Jerry, and six sisters, Lola, Lois, Faye, McGee, Earleen, and Berma, things could get hectic. There were plenty of chores to be done and other work as well. Growing up on a ranch in the 1930's required hard work and perseverance which Mamie carried with her during her life. Mamie attended school, but did not graduate high school until later, where she graduated in Vale, SD, in 1967.
Mamie married Kenneth Glenn Mailloux on August 11, 1947. From this union came three children, Dennis Rae, Stephen Leroy, and Douglas Glenn. Raising three boys was at times challenging, however Mamie took out the time to be a scout den mother for her boys' scout troop and also take her boys and other kids to Deadwood for swimming lessons. Mamie and Kenny enjoyed family and friends, and card-playing was a must. There were many tight games where excitement and camaraderie were crazy but hilarious. Many of these games involved Bobby and Earleen Price, or Walt and Lola Duprel, or Bobby and Don Trohkimoinen; family was everything. Mamie enjoyed yard work and growing flowers. She hated weeds, especially dandelions. We were often concerned about how strong she mixed her spray because we had brown spots in the yard and some of the wild animals acted weird and sometimes aggressive. Her hobbies also included freezing corn and canning vegetables. She also made countless quilts for her family.
She held many jobs throughout her lifetime, from waitressing to housekeeping. She worked at the Gold Rush motel in Boulder Canyon, Weimers Bakery in Sturgis, and Fort Meade VA medical center to name a few. She retired from the VA in 1995 and spent the rest of her days on the family farm.
Survivors include her husband, Kenny; sons, Dennis (Sue) Mailloux, Como, CO, Stephen Mailloux, Vale, SD, and Douglas (Jean) Mailloux, Vale, SD; grandchildren, Roxanne, TJ, Jacque, Sarah, Jennifer, Shane, Toby, and Deana; great-grandchildren, Brett, Addy, Ella, Zane, Noah, Aden, Sidney, Aryanna, Kianne, Miya, and Lane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Albert Schuelke; five brothers; three sisters; and daughter in law, Karen Mailloux.
