Marcella Nadine Horton was born January 18, 1934, to Joseph Lester and Island Marguerite Horton. She was raised in Sturgis, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1952. She married Grant Sorenson on November 21, 1952, and they moved to Texas where Grant was stationed in the army. Their daughter, Vicki, was born while they were in Texas, and they returned to Sturgis when Grant's enlistment ended. On May 6, 1956, Grant died in a boating accident.
Marcella began working at the ACSC office, retiring after 34 years in 1989. On Valentine's Day, 1974, she married Joseph Nonnast, Sr., and they enjoyed the next 40 plus years camping, fishing, boating, sewing, and making jewelry. She also served as an Elder and a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for many years.
Marcella "Pat" Nadine Nonnast, 84, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2018, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Marcella is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Mike) Bradley and Valoree (Steve) Blake, both of Sturgis; stepchildren, Melody (Greg) McNulty, Betty Jo (Richard) Cook, Guy (Karen) Miller, Joseph Jr. (Lori), and James (Ann) Nonnast; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; second husband; siblings, Della Crago, Arnold (Tuffy) Horton, Ada Mae O'Grady, and Peggy Sigman; and grandson, Justin Bradley.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonnast officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of Sturgis and the First Presbyterian Church.
