Mardella "Mardy" L. Maakestad, 87, Sturgis, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor John Tesnow officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Mardella LaVerne Maakestad was born March 4, 1928, to John and Mabel Dietzel in Alexandria, SD. Mardella married Kenneth Maakestad on December 24, 1944, at Camp Bowie, TX.
Mardy was always there for her family and friends. She was a homemaker all her life. She could make something fabulous out of nothing whether it be food, clothing, or toys for the kids. She loved baking, crafts, sewing, her back yard, driving through the hills, and the holidays, especially SANTA CLAUS.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Kenneth Maakestad; seven children, Jim (Barb) Maakestad, Sheridan, WY, Connie (Stan) Holmes, Abilene, KS, Sheila (Bill) Limbo, Sturgis, SD, Ken Maakestad, TX, Scott (RuthAnn) Maakestad, Littleton, CO, Dawn Wagness, Sturgis, SD, and Tim Maakestad, Gillette, WY; one sister, Bev Dietzel, Billings, MT; eleven grandkids; twenty-two great-grandkids; seven great-great-grandkids; and her wonderful neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one grandson.
A memorial has been established.
