Obituary

Margaret Rosalie (Greenberg) Dutton was born on December 11, 1921, to William and Ida May (Seekins) Greenberg in Newell, SD. She was raised on the Greenberg homestead until her father purchased a farm in the Empire valley east of Vale when she was six. She attended the Empire School and the Empire Friends Church. She graduated as a "Beetdigger" from Vale High School in 1939.

She married Robert Hendrickson in 1943 in Broadus, MT. They made their home in California while Bob was stationed in the Navy during the war.
Steven Hendrickson was born in July, 1947. While visiting the family farm, Bob was killed in an accident in 1950. After this tragedy, Margaret and Steve moved from Long Beach, CA, back to the farm.

Margaret then began caring for her sister, Helen Follette, who had been diagnosed with cancer. Helen passed away in March, 1952, but Marge remained close with Helen's children Roxanna (Roxie) Hutchison, Lurlene (Lori) Fiscus, and William (Bink) Follette.

Margaret was blessed again to find a high spirited hard-working man. She married Lee Dutton on July 2, 1955, in Dupree, SD. Margaret was often quizzed on the choice of travelling to Dupree for this wedding. She finally relented to the fact that their best friends lived there…and the time limit on their marriage certificate was running out! However, they took over the Greenberg farm and resided there until retirement. Marge and Lee had an additional three daughters to join Steve and Linda (Dutton) Greenleaf. A baby girl was born and lost in 1957. Noreen was born in 1959 and Lisa in 1965. Together, this family made quite a "sheepherding" crew. Marge and Lee showed their determination and resilience in establishing their family farm and ranch. This venture lasted almost 52 years until Lee's passing in 2007.

Marge loved so many things and had a kind word about everyone. One could often find her dancing and singing around the kitchen preparing a meal or maybe just sneaking a sweet treat. She was also often found reading/studying the Bible. She loved to study prophecy and was excited about the coming of the Lord. When she wasn't doing either of the previous activities, no doubt she was listening to or watching a ball game. She loved all sports and would cheer against whoever her son-in-law, Randi, was cheering for. This sports obsession became evident when she had two TVs and one radio on at the same time monitoring each event! Crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and cats also kept her entertained for many hours. Fusa, was her latest lap-warmer.

She likewise loved her family. She had many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, but became especially close to the Jones' where she spent her last four years. Son-in-law, Clyde, and grandsons: Zane, Adam, Matthew (Candy & Isabella), Dutton, and Joel gave her much love and attention.

Margaret went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 17, 2011, in Rapid City, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida; husbands, Bob and Lee; sisters, Ruth (Kirk) and Helen; brothers, Phil and Stanley Greenberg; niece, Roxy; nephew, Bink; an infant daughter; and many close neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her son, Steve (Sharon) Hendrickson, Westminster, CO; step-daughter, Linda (Gary) Greenleaf, Marysville, WA; daughter, Noreen (Clyde) Jones, Rapid City, SD; daughter, Lisa (Randi Faeth) Dutton, Sundance, WY; niece, Lori (Clayton) Fiscus, Billings, MT; niece, Beverly (John) Piazza, Cocoa Beach, FL; great niece, Terri Sue Dutton, Vale, SD; brother-in-law, Chet Dutton, Mt. Vernon, WA; sisters-in-law, Alice McKay and Mildred Thompson, Lynden, WA; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to the Vale Community Center and Dakota Life Christian Center.
