Margaret Belle Harwood, 97, Gillette, died Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, WY.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Margaret was born August 8, 1911 at Boneita Springs, SD. She was the first of six daughters born to Frank and Emma (Tholson) Postlewait.
She attended rural Meade County Schools, high school in Rapid City, college at Black Hills Teachers College, the University of SD, Columbia University and the University of Alaska.
Margaret taught in rural schools in Meade County, SD. She served in the Women's Air Corps during World War II and she taught English and special education in Alaska.
She married James Turner in 1943. He was killed in France.
In 1951 she married Orlando Byers in Wasilla, AK. He died in 1970.
She married Ralph Harwood in Piedmont, SD in 1973. He died in 1983.
Margaret retired in Sturgis, SD, and spent time volunteering at the library and the Fort Meade VA Hospital.
She was a member of the Sturgis Methodist Church.
Margaret is survived by her sister Helen Curtis, Klamath Falls, OR; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents and four sisters.
Her last years were spent in Sheridan, WY and then at the Bee Hive Homes of Gillette.
