Rapid City, - Margaret E. Read, 95 of Rapid City passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Westhills Village Health Care Facility/LTC Margaret was born August 9, 1911 in South Amboy, New Jersey to Anna Bell (Rue) and Joseph Ellis Pippett. Margaret grew up and attended school in South Amboy, graduating from Harold G. Hoffman High School in 1928. She then attended Kean College in New Jersey, receiving a teaching certificate. She taught in the Woodbridge Township Schools prior to the birth of her daughter. She lived in various places in New Jersey until she moved to Rapid City in 1984. She made her home in the Westhills Village community from then until her death. She was active in the New Jersey State Federation of Womens Clubs and the Garden Club of New Jersey for many years. She also served on one of the first environmental commissions in New Jersey. After her move to Rapid City she was actively involved in the Friends of the Library and the Fortnightly Womens Club. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Episcopal Church Women. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jackson and Peggy Hammitt of Rapid City. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Memorial Services will be 2:00pm Friday September 8, 2006 at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rapid City with The Very Rev. Dr. Robert T. Wagner and The Rev. William C. Hibbert officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Westhills Village Foundation in Rapid City, SD
