IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Mary
Witcraft
November 23, 1939 – February 27, 2023
Margaret Mary Witcraft passed away on February 27, 2023, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD, surrounded by her husband and sons.
She was born on November 23, 1939, (or Thanksgiving as her family will tell you) in Deadwood, SD. Where she spent the rest of her formative years and graduated from Deadwood High School in 1957. After graduating she set off on an adventure living in Oregon and Washington DC. Before returning and leaving a string of broken hearts when she married Jerry Witcraft on July 30, 1960. Once married they lived in the Lead/Deadwood area for many years before they made their home in Sturgis, SD, in 1973. Margaret and her family frequently visited Estes Park and California.
Professionally, Margaret worked for many years as a secretary and later as a medical transcriptionist. Before retiring in 2009, during her retirement she enjoyed frequent trips to Deadwood always hoping that luck was on her side, monthly Beta Sigma Phi meetings, and making sure her kitchen was stocked full of treats for any visitors. Especially her four great-grandchildren who referred to her as Great Margaret. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her kind heart, sense of humor, and quick wit.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Jerry Witcraft of 62 years, three sons, Steve (Dawn) Witcraft of Saint James, MN, John (Helen) Witcraft of Rapid City, SD, and Paul Witcraft of Whitewood, SD; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Mike Pietrazak of El Cajon, CA.
Preceding her in death is her mother, Mary Slack, sister, Millie Pietrazak, brother, Joe Slack, nephews, Ted, and Chris Pietrzak, in addition to countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the all the nurses, and doctors, and staff who cared for Margaret in her final days at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
