Marguerite Pauline Frye, 93, Spearfish, SD, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Salem, SD. She was born May 23, 1920 at Charles City, Iowa to George and Rose Marie (Pawlowski) Meinzer. When she was 1 ½ years old, she and her mother moved to Lane, South Dakota. She attended school there and graduated from Lane Consolidated High School in 1939. Marguerite worked in various places until her marriage to Walter Frye on October 10, 1941 at Lane, South Dakota. Marguerite worked as a telephone operator in Carlsbad, New Mexico while her husband was in the service. From 1946 through 1958, they farmed in the Alpena and Lane, South Dakota area and then moved to the Black Hills in the winter of 1958, again working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at Sturgis. In 1961, she worked at Rushmore Ads. She moved to Montana in 1962 for a short time before returning to Sturgis and Rushmore Ads until 1972 when the couple moved to Spearfish and purchased the Hilltop Motel. In 1976, they sold the motel and in 1977, she worked at the Party Store which they later bought and sold in 1978 and retired in Spearfish. She then worked at Best Western Sundown Motel as a desk clerk for twelve (12) tourist seasons. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1935 and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Spearfish. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Alpena, Senior Citizens in Spearfish and Member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. Her hobbies included crafts, reading, camping, traveling and playing the piano and organ. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, one daughter, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, one step grandson, and one step brother. She is survived by one daughter, Gwendolyn (Donald) Zingelman, Bridgewater, SD; one son, RaDel (Wanda) Frye; eight grandchildren; two step grandsons; nineteen great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren; two step sisters, Mrs. Robert (Eunice) Anderson, Green Valley, Arizona and Mrs. William (Beverly) Williams, Estes Park, Colorado, special friend Veryl Selock, and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis. Services will be at 10 am Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 11:30am at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
