Marie L. Brackney, 92, Sturgis, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday March 27, 2013 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Marie Langan Brackney was born March 14, 1921 at Enid, MT, to Walter and Kathryn (Porter) Langan. She grew up on a farm outside of Newell, SD. When she was in high school, her family relocated to Phoenix, AZ, where she graduated from Central High in 1938.

Marie moved west to Los Angeles, CA, where she met and married Robert Brackney in 1948. The family moved back to South Dakota in 1972, renovating a house on east Sherman St. in Sturgis.

She worked for a variety of employers including the Federal Reserve Bank, the US Postal Service and Chevrolet. Her jobs included accounting, mail sorting, and book keeping. She last worked as a waitress at Ace's Truck Stop in Sturgis.

Marie was an avid reader and follower of current events. She also loved to travel, and visited Florida, New York City, Washington D.C., Seattle, Boston and Hawaii during her many trips.

Survivors include her son Charles Brackney, Lakewood, CO; one daughter Marie McDunn, Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
