Marjorie E. Backhaus, 78, Vale, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House.
Marjorie was born on a farm south of Rhame, ND, where she lived until the 6th grade when her family moved into Rhame. She graduated from Rhame High School in 1955. With the death of her father, the family moved to Billings, MT, where she worked for Montana Telephone and Telegraph. Marjorie attended Billings LPN School in 1961. She then worked for Ft. Harrison VA in Helena, MT, for several years before transferring to Spokane Washington VA Hospital. After that she transferred to Ft. Meade VA in Sturgis, where she retired. After retirement, she went to beauty school and received her cosmetology license. Marjorie started Cutty 7 in Spearfish. In 1991, her and her husband, Larry, moved to Vale, SD, where the retired.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Backhaus; daughter, Pam (Willard) Potter, Belle Fourche; son, Errol Eppens, Sturgis; grandchildren, Dax Potter and Trevor and Schale Eppens; great-grandchildren, Marly (Vivian) Potter and Chevy Eppens; sister, Marilyn Shipley; and brother, Dennis Gjerde.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Emma (Stenbeck) Gjerde; and one brother, Eldon Gjerde.
In Honor of Marg's final wishes, there will be no public services, no tears, and no goodbyes. Smile and remember the good times. She said "I'll see you later"
