IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Catherine
Crane
June 8, 1923 – January 26, 2013
SPEARFISH -- Marjorie Catherine Crane, 89, left Spearfish early Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2013, and is not expected to return.
Marjorie was born June 8, 1923, to George and Kathryn (Boesen) McCormick in Kimball, SD, the oldest of five girls. Her family moved to the Black Hills where she later attended Lead High School. On Sept. 16, 1940, she married Irvin Crane in Sundance, Wyo. Their early years were spent together in the Black Hills. They had two children, Richard and Sandra. Irvin worked for Homestake Mining Company for a time, and then the family moved to the southwest to pursue other mining ventures and to also get more involved in their passion of horse racing. They spent many years in Arizona, raising their children and training horses before returning to Deadwood where Irvin owned and operated Auer's Sinclair Service Station in Deadwood.
After Irvin passed, Marjorie worked for a time at '76 Liquors and also moved to Spearfish, living in the Oak Apartments for many years. She was a beloved friend and neighbor to many over the years who also lived in the building. The family would like to thank all who were an essential part of the reason she was able to live independently all these years, especially her very special neighbors, Rick and also Susan.
Anyone who came in contact with Marjorie would probably remember her passion for horses and always wearing her beautiful turquoise jewelry. Marjorie had great faith, knowing that she would be reunited with her loved ones some sweet day, and now that day has come. Over the years, she enjoyed time spent around horses and dogs, delighting in two special pups, Rex and Duke.
Survivors include her son, Richard Crane of Spearfish; sisters, Betty Marsh, Rapid City, and Patty (Jerry) McCloskey, Aberdeen, Wash.; grandsons, Richard (Cindy) Ostert, Spearfish, Calvin (Cindy) Ostert, Rapid City, Blake (Aprille) Ostert, Pinehurst, NC; granddaughters Kelley Crane and Shannon Crane, both of Rapid City; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin; her daughter, Sandra Scott; and her sisters, Dorothy Aiken and Marlis Wendland.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the David M. Dorsett Home and Northern Hills Hospice for the thoughtfulness and compassion given while in their care.
At Marjorie's request there will be no services.
