IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Ellen
Stark
June 2, 1928 – February 27, 2013
Marjorie was born June 2, 1928, in Sturgis, SD, to Frank and Virgie (McAbee) Meyer, the youngest of 10 children. She rode horse-back to school and attended grades 1 through 8 in a one-room schoolhouse. The family owned and operated a farm 25 miles east and north of Sturgis. Her father died when Marjorie was eight years old. They didn't have electricity and hauled water from the well to their house. Those were the days of the old wringer washing machines, scrub boards, and clotheslines. Entertainment was listening to the radio, going to the neighbor's house to play cards, ice skating on frozen dams, riding scoop-shovels as sleds, roller skating in the barn loft, and dressing the kittens with doll clothes. Marjorie helped her mother bake 12 loaves of bread every week. The family all helped with the garden and helped with the canning and storing of the harvest. Marjorie gathered eggs, churned butter, and helped prepare meals for the combining crews.
Marjorie graduated from Sturgis High School in 1946. She then taught country school for one year. She married Walter J. "Johnny" Stark in Belle Fourche.
