Marlene Marie (Miller) Kundel was born on November 7, 1937, and passed away on March 19, 2020, at 82 years old.
She was born in Dupree, SD, and lived there until 1950 when the family moved to Spearfish, SD. She completed high school in Sturgis in 1955, and went to South Dakota State University where she obtained her nursing degree and graduated in 1959. Marlene met Ivan Kundel at SDSU and they were married on April 4, 1959. They had three children and lived in many different states, retiring in San Diego and eventually Rapid City.
Marlene's life was centered around her family, her love of Christ and her church, and her many years of service to the homeless community.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan; her three children, Kenneth (Tamara) Kundel, Timothy Kundel, and Evonne (Lyle) Dennis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Ann (Don) Dennis and Karen Kuiken; and many nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Genevieve Miller; and two nephews, Steven Kuiken and Scott Dennis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
