Obituary

STURGIS - Marlene "Midge" Lyons, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2007, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Mr. Tony Ortiz officiating. Burial follows at the Vale Cemetery.

Marlene was born January 7, 1932 at Springfield, Mass. to Archibald and Blanche (Peltier) Black. She was one of three children. In 1949 she graduated from Hayward High School in California and continued her education as a dental nurse and worked in Civil Service. Marlene was united in marriage to Wallace B. Lyons in 1953 and lived in various states and in Europe throughout Wallace's military career. They returned to South Dakota and Marlene continued with civil service and worked at Fort Meade as a receptionist for 8 more years until for health reasons, she retired. Aside from being a working mother, she was a talented artist of painting and sketching. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was an accomplished figure skater and continued to enjoy watching the sport. She loved to watch movies and spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Shelly and her husband Jim Sheeler, Vale, SD; Walter and his wife Marlene Lyons, Roseburg, OR and Darilynn Kibbler; one sister, Rita Warner, Clovis, NM; five grandchildren, Scott Michael, Alisha, Kevin, Carrie, and one great granddaughter, Lexi.

Even with her ongoing serious health problems, Marlene didn't complain. She handled her trauma with grace, strength and dignity. Marlene helped others overcome these times with her own unique sense of humor.

Marlene was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
