Marshall J. Goddard, age 66, passed away July 3, 2011, at home with his family by his side.
Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis SD, with the family present from 7:00 PM to 9 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at the Sturgis Church of Christ on Friday July 8th, 2011 at 10:00 AM.
Marshall was born September 20, 1944 in Hettinger, ND to Forrest and Anna (Verhulst) Goddard. Marshall graduated from Hettinger High School in 1962 and went on to attend Black Hills State Teachers College where he met his wife Lavina (Lushbough). Marshall and Lavina were married February 13, 1965 in Sturgis, SD. Marshall spent several years teaching rural school in Perkins and Haakon County before moving on to his Uncle Roy Goddard's ranch where he lived out his lifelong dream of ranching. In 1982 he was added to the Lord's church. In 2008, Marshall retired from ranching and renewed his passion for fishing with his family and long time friend Verne Anders.
Marshall was a loving husband, father, grandpa and cherished son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all those who shared his life.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Goddard, an infant brother, and an infant grandson.
Survivors include his wife Lavina, Sturgis; one son Todd (Janelle) Goddard, Prairie City, SD; one daughter, Tammy Derschan, Sioux Falls; his mother, Anna Goddard, Sturgis; brothers, Tom (Betty) Goddard, Prairie City, Monte (Tarrie) Goddard, Sturgis; sister Gerie (Don) Ericson, Sturgis;and four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Roy, Chandler and Broox and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial has been established to the House of Compassion, Rochester MN.
