Obituary

Marvin Earl Herron, 81, of Boise, ID, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, after a long illness.

A memorial service was held in Idaho by his close friends and associates. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Marvin was born August 3, 1933, in Artesian, SD, to Andrew J. and Marie (Breen) Herron. He later lived in Pierre where he grew up and attended school with one sister and two brothers. In 1952, he served in the Korean War.

On June 3, 1956, he married Verla Carpenter, daughter of Troy and Lillie Carpenter of Volga, SD. They raised seven sons and one daughter. Marvin worked as an electrician in various towns in South Dakota and Nebraska until his retirement. He was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Marvin is survived by his ex-wife, Verla; five sons, Michael, Black Hawk, Timothy, Lebanon, MO, Scott, Sturgis, and Dan and Jeffery, Rapid City; one daughter, Becky, Salina, KS; one brother, Calvin, Nebraska; half-brother, James, Rapid City; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Orville Sweet; step-mother, Mae Herron; two sons, David and Rick; one granddaughter, Wanda Marie; sister, Gladys (Herron) Schmidt; brother, Marlyn; half-brother, Lonnie; brother-in-law, Paul Schmidt; sister-in-laws, Angeline (wife of Marlyn), Lois (wife of Calvin Sweet), and Marline and Marlys Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.
