Marvin William Kallenberger, 69, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009 at home with his wife of 47 years and his family by his side.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, noon to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, December 16, at 10 a.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kyle Reinhiller officiating. Burial will be at the Bear Butte Cemetery
Marvin was born May 8, 1940, at Eureka, South Dakota, to William and Fredia (Herman) Kallenberger. He grew up on the family farm in Hosmer, South Dakota and later moved to Deadwood in 1950. There he attended school through the tenth grade before moving to Washington State for 2 years, working in his family's orchard and warehouse. In 1960, he returned to Deadwood where he started working in the logging business. Marvin was married to Patricia Delzer at Lead, SD on April 14, 1962. The couple lived in Lead until 1976, when they moved to Sturgis. In 1995, they relocated to Whitewood.
Marvin worked as a lumberjack until retirement in 1991 due to health concerns. He enjoyed fishing and camping bust most important was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Kallenberger, Whitewood; son, Tim Kallenberger, Whitewood; daughter, Tonya (Clancy) Fenner, Gillette, WY; mother, Fredia Kallenberger, Sturgis; sisters, Fran (Chuck) Wood, Sturgis, Sandy Engel, Sturgis, Bernice (Dave) Huff, Yakima, Wa, Shirley Hall, Yakima, Wa; and grandchildren, Seth and Riley Hampton, Ciara and Cassidy Fenner.
He was preceded in death by his father, one nephew, and his brother-in-law.
A memorial has been established to the Hospice of the Northern Hills.
